Hi there! I'm Kristiana Hansen, a web and graphic designer working in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. I'm that unique person who can grasp both the technical and aesthetic, the "right brain" analytical and the "left brain" creative abandon. In my experience people usually fall into one hemisphere or the other and there are definite advantages - especially in terms of communication - when a person can do both. Techies like that I understand the nuts and bolts of their universe and that I can speak their lingo. Creatives appreciate my design sense and ability to visually communicate concepts.
My education includes a degree in Art and another degree in Mass Communications. There's really nothing more "massive" as a communications medium than the World Wide Web - but it's also a medium that can be narrowly tailored to the individual. It doesn't have to be passive like television, it can be interactive like theater that has broken down the "fourth wall" and the audience becomes a part of the story. The design concepts of layout, composition, color theory and so on remain consistent regardless of what technologies are employed to create and deploy them. We may live in an age of the "web specialist" where you have a guru for each technology on staff (or on call), but technology - especially where the Internet is concerned - is always in flux so there's something to be said for the "generalist" as well. One of my strengths is in being able to adapt, to learn new technologies and to work with whatever a client uses - whether that's Photoshop or Corel, FreeHand or Illustrator, Dreamweaver or GoLive, Apache or IIS, Mac or Windows - ultimately, though, it isn't what you installed on the computers, it's who you install in front of them.
My ten years of professional design experience ranges from working with small "Mom & Pop" operations to multinational corporations. I may be a designer, but I'm also not afraid to dive into the code if need be to tweak a thing or two. I've set up servers and networked computers, not because I needed to but because I was curious or I wanted to play with some technology. My knowledge doesn't stop at Photoshop or Dreamweaver - I've done photography, digital video editing, audio production, Flash animations, complex javascripting, and print media as well. I've worked in production and marketing departments, managed multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, assisted in setting up and running a new media department, and have interfaced with both internal and external clients.
So, if that all sounds like someone you want on your team (and you know it does), contact me via info@kmhcreative.com and let's get to work!
